The three neighbouring holiday villages of Axams, Birgitz and Grinzens are nestled on a sun-drenched plateau of the western foothills overlooking Innsbruck. Axams, the largest village on the plateau, together with the adjacent ski area of Axamer Lizum has written Olympic history twice already - as the proud host of various alpine skiing events in 1964 and 1976.

Axamer Lizum continues to boast Olympic-calibre skiing conditions, scoring year after year with its expertly prepared pistes, cool Snow & Fun Park, pristine deep snow slopes, exciting natural toboggan runs and plenty of mountain huts offering refreshments in a convivial ambiance. Axamer Lizum is also within easy reach of the nearby villages of Grinzens and Birgitz.
During the summer months, the Axams – Birgitz – Grinzens holiday region turns into a multi-faceted recreational zone. Besides being a hiker’s paradise, the area offers a multitude of exciting sports and relaxed leisure activities amidst the unique landscape of the majestic Kalkkögel mountains.
Open throughout the year, the Axams sports and leisure centre provides fun and entertainment for young and old, with a marked focus on winding down and wellbeing. There are indoor and outdoor pools, various saunas, beach volleyball court, bouldering hall and lots more beside, to ensure a refreshing, relaxing and invigorating experience.
Axams, Birgitz and Grinzens are typical, centuries-old Tyrolean villages with a common heritage of historical sites and ancient rites full of lore and legends. The deep-rooted love for traditional customs finds its expression in a multitude of unique events, such as the “Wampelerreiten” and “Lanigerschaug’n” during carnival time and a display of nativity scenes known as “Krippele schaug’n”. In addition to this, there are convivial Tyrolean folklore evenings, fairs and festivals, jaunty marching bands and proud riflemen’s associations - the perfect ingredients for happy holiday memories.
