Ellbögen and its history
Here on the sunny mountain plateau, where once a sprawling forest wilderness grew and bears, wolves and aurochs lived, it is believed that humans first settled as far back as the Neolithic Age and the Early Bronze Age. This was a location that provided them with protection. There are, however, very few archaeological findings dating back to this period. However, an urnfield dating back to around 1300 – 1000 BC, discovered in St. Peter in Ellbögen, indicates that this area was already quite densely populated at that time. It is believed that people came to the area in search of copper.

The Parish Church of St. Peter was first documented at the beginning of the 14th century; it is highly likely, however, that a chapel stood on this sunny spot much earlier than that.
