Alpenzoo – 50th Anniversary

Innsbruck’s Alpenzoo first opened its doors in September 1962 and is this year, therefore, celebrating its 50th anniversary all year long every day from 9 am.

Located at an altitude of 727 metres, the Alpenzoo is Europe’s highest zoo. More than 2,000 animals of 150 different species invite you to come and enjoy a memorable day exploring the biodiversity of the Alps. What makes this Alpine zoo so unique is that it shows Alpine life forms in both a historical and in a modern-day context. As a “themed zoo”, the Alpenzoo is one of a kind worldwide and, in its enclosures, aviaries, aquarium and outdoor terrariums, it houses a uniquely extensive collection of animals from throughout the European Alpine region.

From a photo exhibition showing old pictures of the zoo’s animal enclosures, to a photography workshop, from the opening of new enclosures to a wide variety of events and guided evening tours open to the public and lots more besides, we’re offering our visitors an enjoyable and varied anniversary year 2012!
Welcome to the Alpenzoo!
