The Innsbruck promenade concerts
Infectious rhythms and memorable tunes
4 until 29 July 2012: The Innsbruck promenade concerts
The nostalgic charm of the Imperial Palace’s central courtyard provides the perfect setting for the annual Innsbruck Promenade Concerts - a series of free outdoor events that provide the fascinating opportunity of delving into the bygone era of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy: For one, the historic ambiance of this ornate baroque building easily evokes images of Habsburg emperors listening to jaunty tunes wafting in through the palace windows. And also the music itself will carry you off to Imperial times, as Tyrolean brass bands – together with ensembles from other Austrian regions and all over Europe – embark on a spirited concert programme of waltz tunes, marches and other memorable melodies dating back to the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Also for its 2012 edition the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts will bring to to town a large number of military and police orchestras, civilian marching bands, brass ensembles and wind bands. While the offcial opening will be an all-Tyrolean affair presented by the Tyrolean State Conservatory’s brass orchestra and wind band, this year’s Promenade Concerts will present the Castle Guard and Czech Police Orchestra, the Saxon Philharmonic Brass Philharmonics, the Upper Austrian Military Marching Band, the Koningklijke Harmonie ‘Sainte Cécile’ Eijsden ensemble from the Netherlands, the European Brass Band, the Musique des Force Aeriènnes de Bordeaux as well as the Orchestra Fiati Filarmonica Mousiké from Gazzaniga. Also various Tyrolean bands will take part in this lively event, including the Brassband Fröschl Hall, Brass Connection Tirol, the village marching bands of Prutz, Hatting and Oberhofen, together with two of the region’s most acclaimed brass orchestras, namely Swarovski Musik Wattens and Stadtmusikkapelle Wilten.
Two Grand Tattoos - as well as a preliminary concert performed by the Alt Matreier Tanzmusik - will be additional highlights in the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts’ caleidoscope of infectious rhythms. Moreover, revelers can enjoy the spirited sounds of marching bands, Viennese waltzes and dance bands free of charge.
