Vibrant, vivacious and elegant
For many years now, the Innsbruck Tanzsommer has brought dance ensembles from all around the globe to an enraptured audience at the Tyrolean capital. For its 2012 edition, the festival programme features top companies from the United States of America, Germany, Canada and Taiwan. The event will kick off with Lucky Seven, a piece performed by the Eric Gauthier Dance Company whose entertaining choreographies captivated the Innsbruck audience already in 2011.
Similarly fun-filled action can be expected from the Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, affectionately known as the ‘Trocks’. Based on a deep passion for classical ballet, this all-male troupe exhilarates the crowd with its colourful, idiosyncratic shows.
The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre from Taiwan - as well as the US-American ensemble Pilobolus -, in contrast, emphasize on poetic settings and enchanting scenarios. To this day, the Taiwanese company’s legendary performance on the occasion of the 2001 Innsbruck Tanzsommer ranks among the key events in the history of the annual dance festival. Accompanied by the Rustavi Choir from Georgia the ensemble’s current programme, titled Songs of the Wanderers, represents a delightful, touching blend of vocals and movement. In its new show Shadowland, the Pilobolus Dance Theatre (USA) takes an innovative look at the ancient art of shadow play - with perfect dance moves offset by the intriguing effects of skilful lighting on canvas screens.
Besides these top dance acts the festival would not be complete without the popular dance workshops - and the festival’s youth programme titled Stars of Tomorrow, the platform for budding dance talents from the United States. Within the framework of the projects ‘Solaris’ and ‘Lunaris’, young artists will take to the stage in Innsbruck, Axams and numerous other locations throughout the Tyrol. In addition, dance enthusiasts are offered the opportunity to receive expert tuition by leading experts during various workshops scheduled to place from 7 until 13 July 2012, at the Tanzacademy Innsbruck ballet school.
