Modern Architecture

In the past 15 years a remarkable architectural scene has become established in the Tyrol.

Following a phase after 1960 when mass tourism was courted and a "pseudo-Alpine style" was indulged in it is all the more astounding that the Tyrol has now undergone a transformation manifested in architecture of quality.

Since 1985 there has been "offical recognition by the Provincial Goverment for "new building". In 1993/94 the "aut" (architecture forum) became established, it acts as an independent interface between specialists, the public and politics.
Two major competitions got the discussion going regarding new buildinig in old urban areas: the 1985 tender for the enlargement of Innsbruck Town Hall and that in 1988 for a new building for the Faculty of Sozial & Economics Sciences (SoWi).

The New Bergisel Ski Jump
