Gries Experience
Situated at an elevation of 1,200 metres, Gries im Sellrain is a mere 25 kilometres from the city of Innsbruck.
And yet the solitude of the mountains is just a stone’s throw away from the picturesque village with its wide selection of accommodation and inns offering comfort and warm hospitality. Gries is an ideal starting point for walks and hikes of all levels of difficulty, both during the summer months and in the autumn. Kids all love the Marmot Adventure Playground, while wildlife-watching in autumn offers an unforgettable experience for all the family. The village’s close proximity to Innsbruck is also something that is greatly valued by many of our guests who enjoy a city daytrip during their holiday.
During the winter months, the unique Kühtai ski area – Austria’s highest winter sport resort (with the exception of the glaciers) – is also within easy reach. But what makes Gries im Sellrain particularly popular are its outstanding conditions for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing.
In tune with the pulse of nature
A holiday in Gries im Sellrain offers you the unique opportunity of discovering a side of nature that few people ever get to experience. You can witness the fascinating annual stag rut, for example, in the Sellraintal valley, or participate in an autumn wildlife watch. Where else do you have the chance to see stags, deer, chamois and other animals in their natural habitat at such close range?
During the winter months guests can accompany our local ranger Luis as he feeds the wild roe deer, and a magical torchlight walk also offers a feast of experience for all the senses.
