An eerie legend and hearty home-cooking
Situated at an elevation of 1,673 metres at the foot of the Kalkkögel mountain range, the Kemater Alm Alpine hut in the Senderstal valley is one of the most popular walking destinations, both in summer and in winter. The area where it stands was first documented by the Bishop of Brixen as “montum alpinum Senders” back in 1142.
The little chapel, which was inaugurated in 1932, offers an idyllic spot to rest and reflect.
Visitors to the Kemater Alm and to the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte, which is open in summer only, shouldn’t let themselves be unsettled by the eerie legend of the ghost known as “Putz" who is said to have once haunted the huts – the home-made apple strudel and other mouth-watering traditional dishes are just too good for you to leave in a hurry!
