“Where else could be more beautiful?” – that’s the thought that goes through most people’s minds when they first see Grinzens. The village is surrounded by meadows, fields and forests, and the majestic mountains are almost close enough to touch. Hiking devotees know that the Sellraintal valley, just a short distance from Grinzens, is a paradise for all outdoor enthusiasts.

The valley offers a vast network of tracks and trails, including the 15 kilometre-long Sellraintal high-altitude trail with its breathtaking panoramic views. A particularly memorable hiking tour is one where you can either start in the village of Grinzens itself, or save yourself a few kilometres by driving along the toll track about half-way to the Kemater Alm mountain hut before starting your hike to the Salfeinsalm and the idyllic Salfeinssee lake, the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps. From here you can take in the breathtaking views of the Kalkkögel range and the unforgettable all-round mountain panorama. With a total of four peaks just begging to be conquered – Grieskogel, Breitschwemmkogel, Angerbergkopf and Schaflegerkogl - summit climbers are well and truly spoilt for choice here.
