Let us surprise you!
At an altitude of approximately 800m above sea level, the two quaint little villages of Mutters and Natters nestle side-by-side on a sunny plateau in the foothills just above Innsbruck. Although – or possibly because – the bustling town is only a few kilometres away, you will find that the area has preserved its rural charm and typical village idyll.
Mutters and Natters have a lot more to offer, besides being so conveniently close to Innsbruck. Mutters, for instance, has been voted twice already “the Tyrol’s most beautiful village” – and Natters was chosen by none other than Habsburg emperor Maximilian as the site for his summer residence, Schloss Waidburg. Taking a closer look at the charms of Mutters, it becomes quite apparent what the village keeps bagging its awards for: The superbly preserved old farmhouses with their colourful display of flowers, the breathtaking views across the valley to the jagged Nordkette mountain range towering above the city of Innsbruck, all surrounded by picturesque fields and meadows, make it a jewel amidst the rugged grandeur of the mountains.
Both villages take much pride in their first-class infrastructure offering a large variety of family friendly sports and leisure options to both local outdoor fans and holiday makers. Among the many highlights are state-of-the-art lifts and cable cars that take you from Mutters up to the local landmark mountain Mutterer Alm. Also known as “adventure mountain” - for its exciting adventure playground near the summit station of the 8-seats-gondola lift - the area is an absolute hiker’s paradise with many scenic trails and charming mountain huts. During winter time Mutterer Alm offers glorious family skiing, complete with ski rental and professional ski school. Sitting like a glistening gem in the heart of Natters is the Natterer See swimming lake with its multiple award-winning, 5 star camp ground (open all year). Here a wide range of outdoor sports and leisure activities is sure to keep everyone entertained throughout the year. No wonder that Natters is particularly popular with children – they simply love the professional kids entertainment programmes, in which little guests staying in Innsbruck and its holiday villages can even participate free of charge.
To savour even more local flavour, the two villages invite you to traditional village fairs, open-air marching band concerts, Tyrolean folklore nights and horse-drawn carriage rides across meadows and forests. There’s also pony riding for children, bread-making demonstrations and farm visits, an outdoor pool with fun amenities for all the family (newly renovated in 2012) as well as a free hiking programme, to round off a truly memorable summer holiday.
During winter time, when the slopes of Mutterer Alm turn into a paradise for alpine skiing, you can pick your choice from a variety of additional entertaining snow sports. With fun options such as tobogganing or cross-country skiing, there is absolutely no time to get bored in the cold season.
Excellent public transport links – we particularly recommend a ride on the attractive Stubaitalbahn tram – bring also the bustling city life of nearby Innsbruck within easy reach - so that your stay in Mutters, or Natters, leaves absolutely nothing to be desired.
