Culture and tradition
One of the highlights of the year in the Alps is undoubtedly the traditional “Almabtrieb” when, every September, the cattle that have spent the summer high up on the mountains pastures are driven down to the valley for winter. In keeping with the festive mood, the cows are decorated with elaborate colourful headdresses of flowers and herbs. Spectators cheer as they welcome the herdsmen and the animals into the village and then the festivities begin, a grand celebration naturally accompanied by a lot of music and plenty of mouth-watering, traditional specialities.´
