Mountain vistas of breathtaking proportions open up before your eyes. The outstandingly scenic mountain track is well marked and signposted with many resting areas and benches at the most spectacular viewpoints.

The trail starts from the Kühtaier Landesstrasse road, 300 metres to the east of the Zirmbachalm restaurant, and it finishes at the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut above the hamlet of Oberperfuss.

You can join or exit the trail above Haggen through the reforested protection forest, from the hamlet of Haggen itself, via the WunderWanderWeg walking path from the Sonnbergalm to St. Sigmund, via the Heuriesenweg trail to Gries, via St. Quirin to Sellrain and via Stiglreith to Oberperfuss.

To walk the full hiking trail takes 6 to 7 hours.

High-altitude hiking trail with a miners’ hut and an ore mill

Starting in Kühtai, the trail, which leads through breathtaking high-alpine terrain, takes you past the Obere Iss Alm mountain pasture to Hochötz, to the heart of the region’s mining history.

History comes to life at the entrance of the Wörgetal valley where a miners’ hut and an ore- mill have been recreated on the original foundations. Photographs give visitors an insight into the area’s mining past. Walkers can also discover all about the history of the mountain pastures and huts along the high-altitude trail, as well as about the region’s botanical diversity. The trail leads through fragrant Swiss pine forests and past giant piles of scree that were formed by enormous rockslides shortly after the Ice Age.

This high-altitude track leads from Oberperfuss, the place of birth of the renowned geographer Peter Anich, to the Peter Anich Hütte mountain hut in Rietz.

Route description:

Stiglreith car par – Rosskogelhütte mountain hut (1,777 m –  refreshments available), approx. 1 hour, Rosskogelhütte – Krimpenbachsattel (1,889 m) – Inzinger Alm mountain hut (Hundstalalm, 1,641 m, refreshments and accommodation available), approx. 1 hour, Inzinger Alm via the “Alpl” to the “Rauher Kopf” mountain (2,302 m) – Flaurlinger Alm mountain hut (1,613 m, refreshments and accommodation available), approx. 3 hours, Flaurlinger Alm – Oberhofer Galtalm pasture, derelict Neuburger Hütte hut, approx. 1 ½ hours, Neuburger Hütte – Pfaffenhofer Alm pasture (Widdersberger Alm, 1,694 m, refreshments and accommodation available), approx. ½ hour, Pfaffenhofer Alm – Peter Anich Hütte mountain hut (1,910 m, refreshments and accommodation available), approx. 1 hour

Walking time: 8 – 9 ½ hours

The signposting of the Peter Anich high altitude track (Peter-Anich-Höhensteig) is not consistent – therefore it is important that you follow the signs for each individual stage of the hike.
