Rum & Culture
Have you ever heard of the “Halbweisse”, the “Melcher” or the “Spiegeltuxer”…?
Behind these strange names lie old “Fasnacht” carnival customs which are celebrated in Rum every year under the name of “Mullerlaufen”. The “Mullerlaufen” figures, the masks of which symbolise winter and spring, good and evil, what is past and what is still to come, perform in several village events during the carnival season, and, in addition, a large “Muller procession” takes place in one of the MARTHA villages each year.
The FoRum is a real forum in the sense of a traditional, public “marketplace”. An event centre and a meeting place in one, the FoRum association organises a wide range of events throughout the year from the magical Christmas market to the open-air cinema in summer, from a beach volleyball tournament to an “Oktoberfest”. The high-calibre Easter festival, “Osterfestival Tirol”, is also held here from time to time alongside Innsbruck.
