Nativity Scenes – both traditional and out-of-the-ordinary
The MARTHA villages, which include Rum, belong to the so-called “nativity scene villages” in the Innsbruck region. Alongside traditional nativity scenes with carved figures, many homes in Rum have more unusual works depicting the biblical story – clothed, woollen dolls, for example, carved relief nativity scenes and scenes made using old hand-painted paper or Sicilian terracotta. From Boxing Day until around the middle of January, these little works of art situated in various buildings and chapels, can be viewed with the consent of the local nativity scene association. During this time an informative guide to all the nativity scenes is available in the parish church in Rum.
