A Heaven for Hikers

Guests staying in Rum have an almost limitless choice of walking and hiking routes at their disposal. And the area’s numerous mountain huts mean that all that exercise in the great outdoors can be combined with mouth-watering culinary treats – a “reward”, so to speak, after all the effort. A walk to the Enzianhütte mountain hut (1,041 m) then on to the Rumer Alm (1,243 m) is a gentle one ideally suited to families with young children.

After the one-and-a-half hour walk to the Arzler Alm mountain hut (1,067 m), particularly popular with families on account of its play area, or the two-hour walk to the Thaurer Alm (1,464 m), not only are you rewarded with hearty fare and a cool refreshment, but also with views to take your breath away. The famous Way of St. James passes through Rum en route to Santiago de Compostela. It leads past the Parish Church of St. George and the Calvary, and then onwards in a westerly direction to the Cathedral of St. James (Dom zu St. Jakob) in Innsbruck.

More exercise and fitness in the great outdoors can be had in the “Alpenpark Karwendel” nature reserve where 15 kilometres of running and Nordic walking trails, suitable for all levels of ability, have been created.
