Themed walking trails
The “WunderWanderWeg” themed walking trail in St. Sigmund opens your eyes to many wonders of nature and thus offers a unique hiking experience for the whole family. The trail, which leads up over 350 metres of elevation to the Sonnbergalm mountain hut, has several interesting resting stops along the way, such as the “eagle’s nest stop”. Up at the “Alm” you can enjoy not only a breathtaking panoramic view of the mountains of the Stubai Alps, but also a fine choice of culinary treats.
St. Sigmund-Praxmar, however, is abundant in natural wonders – all you have to do is put on your walking boots! One particularly awe-inspiring spectacle of nature can be witnessed during the months of June and July when the Alpine roses transform the mountainside into a carpet of colour from delicate pink to flaming crimson. The Praxmar nature trail leads you through the Alpine pine forest that covers the steep slopes of the Lüsener valley. Along the two kilometre-long trail, you pass ten fascinating stops with a wealth of information about the natural history and the flora and fauna of this high-altitude forest.
Equally interesting is the “glacier trail” that leads to the Lüsener “Ferner” – another word for glacier. The trail towards the glacier takes you along the Fernauboden area which, itself, was covered by the glacier thousands of years ago. Nine stops along the way provide fascinating information all about glaciers.
