Summer Holidays in Zirl
A warm place for plants
During the summer months, the countryside around Zirl displays its colourful side. Lush vegetation containing a wide variety of plant species can be found in the 920 square kilometres of the Alpenpark Karwendel. The Tyrol’s largest nature protection area is characterised by its unique and spectacular Alpine landscape, its free-roaming wildlife and its many rare plant species.
A short walk from the village centre takes you the Fragenstein and Martinswand nature reserve which, on account of its unusually warm microclimate, offers ideal conditions for the so-called “Föhn flora” consisting of warmth-loving shrubbery and dry grassland. But there is another side to this nature reserve, a side that is well-known to both locals and visitors, namely the rocky, craggy headwall of the Martinswand, the challenging routes of which attract countless climbers.
