Change in Cuba
This year, IFFI will broadcast movies from and about Cuba which changed over the last few years.
As power was handed over from Fidel to Raoul Castro there was a shift in social values. Now it is legal to own a small business, to sell cars and houses, and critics of the regime have been released from prison and travelling has become easier.
What is the filmmakers response to that? The International Film Festival tries to answer this question with this year's schedule. Well-known artists like Daniel Díaz Torres will have their say as well as young talents and exiled Cuban filmmakers. Daniel Díaz Torres new movie 'LA PELÍCULA DE ANA' is the first Cuban-Austrian coproduction. Daniel Díaz Torres and the producer Josef Koschier from Salzburg met two years ago at IFFI and decided to make a movie together. Last December the movie won many prizes at Havanna Film Festival, for example, Eduardo del Llano's script won the prize for best screenplay.
