Ten zuidwesten van het dorp, onderaan de school van Rum-Dorf, duikt in de velden het sobere bouwwerk op van de pestkapel "Maria Heimsuchung (Onze Lieve Vrouwe Visitatie)". Zij werd vermoedelijk in de 17e eeuw ter herinnering aan de jaren van de pest 1611 en 1612 gebouwd. Want toendertijd woedde ook in Rum de zwarte dood. Het pestkerkhof lag vermoedelijk in de buurt van de huidige pestkapel.
