7 July until 1 August 2010: The Innsbruck promenade concerts
We can only guess at the reaction of our former Emperor, as on balmy summer evenings the sound of brass and string music wafts in through open windows. Well, most probably he would have revelled at the beautiful and majestic marches, waltzes and operetta melodies performed by some of the best bands in the area - just like music lovers of today come to enjoy the Innsbruck promenade concerts, held annually in the courtyard of the Imperial Palace. This year’s schedule comprises again matinee and evening performances full of atmosphere, showcasing from 7 July until 1 August 2010 music originating from the times of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy.
During the course of 24 days, 30 string and brass orchestras and music ensembles will present open-air concerts with a repertoire ranging from popular operetta and waltzes to famous military marches and symphonic pieces. Among the local ensembles are Innsbruck’s Mariahilf and Wilten city bands, the Speckbacher Stadtmusik Hall, the Original Tiroler Kaiserjägermusik, Swarovski Musik Wattens, the Tyrolean Innstrumenti chamber orchestra and, for the first time this year, Windkraft Tirol.
Bands from other Austrian provinces together with German and Italian ensembles will contribute trans-regional sounds. Performances by the Leipzig Rundfunkblasorchester, the Bundeswehr Musikkorps, the Bozner Blechbläserensemble and the Orchestra Fiati Filarmonica Mousiké from Valle Seriana, will make the 2010 concerts yet another outstanding musical experience under starry summer skies.
