Architecture Moderne
Au cours des 15 dernières années, le Tyrol a vu s'établir une scène architecturale ayant d´jà donné neissance à de remarquables résultats.
Après une phase qui, depuis 1960, rendit hommage au tourisme de masse et s'adonna de facon généralisée à un style "pseudo-alpin", le revirement actuel du Tyrol se traduisant par une architecture de grande qualité est d'autant plus étonnant.

Depuis 1985, le gouvernement régional décerne une "distinction officielle du land pour les nouvelles constructions". Le forum d'architecture "aut" s'est établi en 1993/1994 et sert d'interface indépendante entre le monde professionnel, le public et les instances politiques.

Deux grands concours ont déclenché la discussion concernant de nouvelles constructions dans des zones urbaines anciennes: l'appel d'offres de 1985 pour l'extension de l'Hôtel de Ville d'Innsbruck et celui de 1988 pour la construction de la Faculté des sciences économiques et sociales (Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät, SoWi).

* first open, "non-compartmentalized" building, enabling optimal exchange between the institutes
* "transparency" was realized, visual references everywhere to the town, park and mountains

* high standart of architecture further emphasized by works of art
* zones for fine art
* glass roofing of the courtyard by Daniel Buren

* linguistic intervention by Heinz Gappmayr in the assembly hall
* screens by Matt Mullican, Eva Schlegel, Walter Obholzer and Ernst Trawöger
* café - restaurant "Lichtblick" and Bar "360°", design hotel "The Penz"


BERGISEL SKI JUMP

* architect Zaha Hadid, 2001 - 2002
* hybrid of specific sports site and public function (panoramic - restaurant and viewing platform)
* tower with foot, "head" and approach ramp
* combination of tower and bridge (91,60 m long; 48,35 m high)
* numerous international prizes
* regarded as "modern" symbol of Innsbruck


MAIN STATION & SÜDTIROLER PLATZ

* architects Florian Riegler and Roger Riewe, 2001 - 2004
* the elongated building acts like a barrier
* required shops and access to garage moved to the lower ground floor
* 180 m long facade with arrangement of box windows
* MPreis - shop by Rainer Köberl (2003 - 2004): black glass, reflecting ceiling, wine-red floor and focussing light creating a "glittering cave of consumerism"

ADAMBRÄU BREWERY

* architect Rainer Köberl, Thomas Giner, Erich Wucher, Andreas Pfeifer, 2003 - 2004
* transformation of Lois Welzenbacher´s brewery (built 1926-31)
* housing the AUT and the University archive for architecture


SPARKASSENPLATZ

* architect Johannes Wiesflecker, Rainer Schmidt, Peter Sandbichler, 2004 - 2005
* 1994 competition for new client foyer: space to be provided for urban activities
* visual light installations in the passage by Sandbichler
* plants intentionally dispensed with, "vertical garden" instead: stone gabions (wire baskets filled with stones) forming a green wall
* extensible membrane roof for events


WIEDERIN BOOKSHOP

* "showcase" for books
* interior black throughout, no additional architectonix design
* books "glow" thanks to ingenious light effects
* Land Tirol award for new building


BTV-STADTFORUM

* massiveness, protectiveness, structural clarity, transparency
* outside: classical elements such as rendering, stone frames, oriels with glass outside
* inside: spacious arrangement, light and perspectives
* symbiosis of traditional and modern
