The Innsbruck Almenweg
This exciting path starts off as a forest track and follows a level or gently ascending gradient (difference in altitude approx. 100m) between alpine meadows, from the Kreither Alm (1492 m), via the Raitiser Alm (1553 m) and Mutterer Alm (1608 m), to the Götzner Alm (1542 m).
Wandern im Senderstal, Grinzens
Senders valley near Grinzens
Ideal for families with pushchairs. Walking time between each of the alpine meadows is approx. 30 mins. Prominent viewpoints and benches for resting.

From the Götzner Alm, the Almenweg then continues as a narrow path (unsuitable for pushchairs) to meet a forest track. From there, a woodland path brings you to the Adelshof (1315 m), a mountain inn in a sunny location with a wildlife park, children's play area, and fantastic view over the mountains, walking time approx. 1 1/2 hrs. A stony path then continues (joining a forest path halfway along) to the resort area of Axamer Lizum (1564 m). Walking time approx. 1 hr.

From the Götzner Alm (1542 m) a moderately rising footpath (unsuitable for pushchairs, and with 300 m difference in altitude) leads to the Birgitzer Alm (1808 m). Excellent views onto the Kalkkögel, Nordkette and the whole of the Inn valley, walking time approx. 11/2 hrs. From there an ascent of 250 metres brings you to the Birgitzköpfelhaus mountain hut (2098 m) with more splendid views, walking time approx. 30 mins.
Another path from the Birgitzer Alm descends towards to the west to reach the Axamer Lizum resort, situated 350 m lower down, walking time 30 mins. From the Götzner Alm there's also a direct link route to the Birgitzköpfelhaus. That path is fairly steep and in places crosses the Götzens ski runs (difference in altitude 500 m). Walking time approx. 1 1/2 hrs.

From Axamer Lizum the Almenweg continues first as a forest track, starting at the Axamer Lizum car park, and then progresses to the Schafalm, walking time approx. 10 mins.

From the Schafalm a narrow path carries on through the Hochwald forest into the Senderstal valley and joins a forest track leading to the Kemater Alm (1673 m), walking time approx. 2 hrs.

From the Kemater Alm a forest track (also unsuitable for pushchairs) brings you to the Adolf-Pichler mountain hut (1977 m) at the foot of the Kalkkögel peaks, walking time approx. 1 1/4 hrs.

Those who want to save themselves the effort of the tough ascent to the Mutterer Alm can instead take advantage of the newly opened Muttereralm cable car (also covered by the INNSBRUCK CARD). Particularly suitable for wheelchair users and families with children in pushchairs.
