Shopping is for some a true joy and for others more necessary torture. No matter what the motivation behind it looks like, the question of whether you always need everything new is more topical than ever. Because used secondhand clothes, furniture and co are cheaper, more sustainable and often simply the more sensible choice.

Besides the (currently closed) flea markets, online platforms like Willhaben and Co, there are also some companies in Innsbruck that are dedicated to the sale of used goods. And that's exactly who I would like to introduce to you today!

HORUCK - THE INDOOR FLEA MARKET

The large store at Haller Straße 43 is not only an indoor flea market, but also a social project that offers motivated long-term unemployed a fair chance. There are not only jobs in sales, but also with the transport team, because HoRuck also takes on apartment clearances, de-cluttering and relocations (here is an overview of the services).

My favorite corner is just to the left, the seemingly endless row of glasses. In the side aisles, I usually find what I'm looking for in kitchen appliances and dishes, too. At the far left of the hall is a dedicated vintage corner - there's often great furniture from the 50s and 60s here, which is a touch more expensive but still great bargains. For example, our 50s shoe cabinet is from here and every time I open it I feel a bit like Audrey Hepburn! By the way, of course no Swedish furniture store can match the all-wood quality of these pieces.

Tip: Furniture, electrical appliances, books, etc. can also be dropped off here. For each donation you get a -10% voucher on your next purchase. You can find all the info here!

Current opening hours: Mon - Sat: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m

WAMS SHOP

No flea market in sight but still in the mood for something new? Then the Wams Shop next to the tax office (Innrain 30b) is a good place to go. The shop is part of a whole network that has created 141 jobs in socio-economic enterprises.

The store in the city specializes in seasonal clothing. In the back right there is a dish rack, on the left also some books, children's toys and costume jewellery in the checkout area.

Throughout Tyrol there are the colorful Wams Containerwhere you can drop off sorted clothing in bags without contact and at any time. It is important to note that only clothing, shoes and home textiles in a tied bag are accepted. This makes sorting easier later on and ensures order when collecting. Depending on the location, the containers are emptied several times a week.

Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 9am - 6pm, Sat 9am - 1pm

DIELE - THE VINTAGE & DESIGN STUDIO

Handpicked unique pieces are available in the small but fine studio of the Hallway in Höttingergasse 26 and sometimes online in the Instagram Stories to buy. Also to be found here: Jewellery by Janine Patrice, Resi & Rosa Vintage, Goldstück, Kids Vintage, Miriam Lahner Holzbildhauerin and MindlyCeramics!

Current opening hours: Mon - Thurs: 4:00pm - 7:00pm

NOWHERE VINTAGE - OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL PIECES

Nowhere Vintage usually hosts regular Kilosale flea markets, but they are also online very well and strongly represented. The shop is part of the Nowhere Store, founded in 2013 (you may remember the successful "Es keat oanfach viel mehr gschmust" shirt?) and is sort of the extension that came about in 2016. Since then you can shop for stylish shirts, blouses, jackets and pants in the well-stocked but still super neatly sorted store at Anichstraße 21.

Opening hours: Mon - Fri 11:00am - 7:00pm, Sat 11:00am - 6:00pm

MONTE GWAND - LOVING SHOP WITH A NEW CONCEPT

The idea of Monte Gwand is simple: "A clear second-hand sale with selected items that cover different style ranges."

The team around Rossana Oettl (cover picture) sells exclusively hand-picked pieces, some of which are taken on consignment and then spend 3 months in the shop. What is not sold goes back to the owner. In winter there is a separate room just for snowboard & ski gear, but besides down jackets and co there is also a small selection of ski boots. Special features are even noted by hand on the label.

By the way, Monte Gwand started a few years ago in the greenhouse. Nice that the idea and the pop-up market could develop so much!

Current opening hours: Mon, Tues, Wed + Fri 11am - 6pm, Thurs 11am - 7pm

COST NIX LOAD

The Kostnix store is located at Innstraße 45 in Innsbruck and at first glance a somewhat chaotic shop. Here you meet the opposite of the last presented concepts, because here you can find everything. Some of it, unfortunately, in somewhat questionable conditions. Here is clearly valid: "One man's trash is another man's treasure".

Everyone is allowed to bring something here and everyone is allowed to take something with them. However, a maximum of three items per day and the things may not be resold! The donation box serves to cover the fixed costs. If you want to support the project in the long run, you can do so by becoming a partner.

Nevertheless, the KostNix Shop is not a social project, but a political statement. The free shop wants to counteract the consumer and throwaway society and promote a more conscious use of resources. KostNix also organizes events, performances or even actions like the "Pflanzenschenkmarkt" last October in old cars at the market place.

Current opening hours: Mon 10:00 - 12:00, Wed 14:00 - 16:00, Fri 10:00 - 12:00

KIND & KEGEL - SECONDHAND CHILDREN'S CLOTHING

Just outside the city at Eduard Bodem Gasse 6 in TWI (Reichenau) is Tyrol's largest children's second-hand shop with 200 m2 of sales area. Here you even get a guaranteed exchange right when returning goods within 7 days. This is a service that is otherwise not common in the secondhand sector.

Opening hours: Mon - Fri 9:00 - 17:00, Sat 9:00-12:00

KURVENREICH - SECONDHAND FASHION FOR SIZE 4 AND UP

In Reichenau there is another second-hand shop, the Boutique Kurvenreich in Ing.-Etzel-Straße 47, where you can find as-new and well-maintained outfits.

Opening hours: Mon - Thurs 10:00 - 12:00 and 15:00 - 18:00, Fri 10:00 - 12:00 or by appointment Tel: +43 676 325 61 51

DOROTHEUM - VALUABLE OLD JEWELLERY

At this point, we would also like to mention the Dorotheum Innsbruck at Maria-Theresien-Straße 34, which sells old jewellery from private collections. If you are looking for something specific or like to wear a piece with history, you might also find it at the auctions!

Opening hours: Mon - Fri 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sat 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m

Have fun with responsible secondhand shopping!
