Not to boast, but if there’s one thing I know, it’s playgrounds. Definitely, I’m an expert! As a mama of a toddler, I know quite a few and for you guys, I’ve rounded up our favorites.

Hofgarten:

Right in the middle of the city, super central and easy to get to, is the Hofgarten playground. Under shady trees you will find a large sandbox with a water feature, a swing and a large play castle. Here it is great to climb, hide and slide. Parents can make themselves comfortable on the benches all around and always have their children in view.
Besides, I love the courtyard garden anyway. If you ask me, there is hardly a more beautiful and relaxing place in Innsbruck (apart from the mountains, of course). So my tip is to walk through the park with the kids first and then head to the playground.

Kletterburg im Hofgarten

Doesn’t the climbing castle look a bit like Hogwarts?

Why I like this playground so much: because it is super central; very close by is Franziskaner Platz – the “ice cream mile” of Innsbruck. For us, a visit to the Hofgarten also involves a frozen yogurt. The best is at Kurt‘s. Everything here is organic – even the sundae.
How to get there: as I said, the Hofgarten is very centrally located, if you walk a few minutes it’s easy to get there with most bus lines. But the closest is the Sightseer and bus line B (stop Congress/ Hofburg)
Parking: Rennweg, short-term parking zone; Congress underground car park

Kranebitten:

A playground for the whole family – even for mom and dad. Honestly, you won’t get bored here in a hurry, because in addition to the usual attractions such as sandbox, slide, swing and co, there is an incredible amount of fitness equipment. Well, maybe I’m a bit out of practice, but it wouldn’t hurt me to do a bit more sport again and on this playground it’s definitely possible and I can easily look after my children at the same time.

Why I like this playground so much: it’s just huge, you can barbecue, picnic, play football, basketball and much more. Since it was just newly built in 2016, all the sports and play equipment is still super intact, everything is clean and fresh.
Arrival: Line LK “Kranebitterbodenweg” -> address Kranebitter Allee 220
Parking: limited number at Kranebitter Allee after the camping site (out of town)

Rinn/ Judenstein:

Beautifully located in the forest, next to the tennis courts, is the playground in Judenstein. If you want to take some time out and enjoy some peace and quiet, you should definitely come to Rinn. There are beautiful hiking and walking trails here(more information here) . After a small (or large) round, the dwarves can let off steam at the playground, play at the mouse fountain and watch ducks in the Rinner Lacke.

It doesn’t always have to be the slide, you can also play wonderfully with trees

Why I like this playground so much: I’ll be honest, I like the fact that it’s only a few minutes away from our home the most. But it’s also just beautiful in other ways. It’s especially great that it’s in the forest, even in summer you can always find a shady spot.
How to get there: from Innsbruck main station you can take the bus line 4134 to Rinn. The playground is located at the Sportplatzweg
Parking: parking spaces are available at the entrance road. Directly at the playground and sports field there is a stopping and parking ban as well as a general driving ban on the access road. Walking time to the sports field is approx. 3 minutes.

Pfaffenhofen:

A visit to the playground in Pfaffenhofen is best combined with a trip to the ruins of Hörtenberg. It was first mentioned in a document in 1239, and even though only a tower remains today, you should definitely visit it. About 100 metres west of the playground, a narrow path leads to the ruins on the left. All those who are on the way with a pram should rather take the main path. You can’t get lost, the paths are signposted and you can see the ruins from everywhere. All those who are interested in castles and palaces should have a look at Danijel’s article.
The children’s playground Kiwi at the Seiserweg has various playground equipment such as slide, swings, seesaws, flying fox, sandbox and much more. A shaded picnic area invites you to linger.

From the playground you walk about half an hour to the ruins

Why I like this playground so much: because it is rarely overcrowded and well maintained.
Howto get there: there is a train from Innsbruck to Pfaffenhofen. From the train station to the playground at the Seiserweg you have to walk about 10 – 15 minutes
Parking: Parking is available directly at the playground.

Adventure forest playground in Weisland:

This creative adventure forest playground in Weis land is located on the hiking trail between Arzkasten and Holzleiten. Older children will also get their money’s worth here. Benches are available for parents. It is a 15-minute walk from the parking lot in Arzkasten and a 5-minute walk from Weisland.

Why I like this playground so much: because it is so different from the usual playgrounds. And I find the many wooden figures really funny.
How toget there: best by car
Parking: paid parking lot

Children’s playground at the Kematen sports field

A playground dream come true. Here you really have everything a really good playground needs: swings, slides, a huge sandpit with digger, trampoline, climbing frame… all this makes children’s hearts beat faster.

Why I like this playground so much: quite clear: there is coffee!!!! Because right next to the playground is the large Ruetz bakery. We usually have breakfast here and then go to the playground. That way the whole family has something to enjoy
How to get there: there are trains as well as buses (line 4165) from Innsbruck to Kematen.
From the train station it is a 10 minute walk to the playground on Sportplatzweg
Parking: there is a free short term parking zone (180 min)

If it should rain, there is also one or the other indoor playground. The best thing to do is to read this article.

In this sense I wish you and your children a lot of fun at the playground 😉
