The Crankworx festival tour is returning to Innsbruck for a second year. Last year’s event made the world take notice of Innsbruck as a top destination for biking. The Whip-Off event went down in the books as the most scenic competition in the festival’s history. The entire city is already buzzing in anticipation for the whips, flips and other gravity-defying tricks top athletes will throw down in the competitions. I had the pleasure of joining the MS Mondraker Team at Bikepark Innsbruck to celebrate the opening of the new trail, The Chainless One, and the official opening of biking season. MS Mondraker riders were stoked for the new trail and looking forward to shred it during Crankworx.

MS Mondraker Racing and Bikepark Innsbruck staff are looking forward to the second Crankworx event in Innsbruck. Riders and fans from all over the world will drop into Innsbruck for five days of bike action. The competitions include Whip-Off, Pump Track, Dual Speed ??& Style, Slopestyle and Downhill. The event is more than bike competitions, it’s a great festival for the entire family to enjoy. Even if you are not (yet) a biker, it promises to be a great time. Various nightlife venues will also be hosting parties every night during the event. It will be a great opportunity to meet the pros and other local riders.

MS Mondraker Racing

MS Mondraker Racing is settling into Innsbruck as their home base this year. Lukas, team manager, and the riders are excited to call Innsbruck their new home. They love the short distance between the trails, entertainment, nightlife, fitness centers, and other mountain sports they enjoy while taking a break from riding. Lukas hopes that the bike scene continues to grow with the support of city officials and dreams that one day, Innsbruck will host a World Championship. In recent years, the city has devoted lots of resources to channel riders to specific areas and avoid conflict with hikers and local land owners.

Bikepark Innsbruck

Bikepark Innsbruck is the epicenter of the city’s bike scene and the hosting venue for Crankworx. Riders are thrilled to have dedicated facilities for their sports and the staff has noticed more families and beginners taking interest in the sport.  The park offers a variety of trails for riders at every experience level.

Future of Biking

Sabine, the manager at Bikepark Innsbruck, is excited to see the community keep growing, especially with younger riders. She hosts training camps for kids as young as 6 and every year she sees more and more families bringing their kids. 70 kids are now participating in the camps and many of them are already flourishing as young stars. Sabine emphasized that her goal isn’t to only promote the biking; she also instills a sense of camaraderie, leadership, healthy lifestyle and respect for nature in her camps.

I am looking forward to this year’s Crankworx and even looking forward to trying downhill biking myself. If you have any tips for a beginner, please leave them in the comment section for me.
