Special Exhibition "What remains?"

Sat, 07.12.2019 10:00
Museum Goldenes Dachl

- Permanent exhibition on Emperor Maximilian I and the Late Middle Ages in the Tyrol – open all year!
- One of the rooms in the museum is devoted exclusively to Innsbruck’s famous hallmark, the GOLDEN ROOF.

The Golden Roof
The Innsbruck hallmark is world famous for its 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles. Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) ordered the construction of the splendid balcony before 1500. The Golden Roof served the sovereign above all for purposes of representation and as a demonstration of worldly power.

The museum
Multimedia and modern technologies are employed to encourage visitors to play an active role in the exhibition experience. An audio-guide is available to lead visitors through the varied exhibition, which focuses on the Tyrol in the Late Middle Ages and its significance for Europe and presents the life and impressive career of Emperor Maximilian I.
With its six rooms, the museum paints an interesting picture of the exciting times of Emperor Maximilian I and his political, economic and cultural importance for Europe at a time of transition from the medieval to the modern world.

The view of the Old Town from the balcony of the Golden Roof is an impressive highlight of the visit.

Children’s World
Kunz von der Rosen, Emperor Maximilian’s jester, is waiting to take children big and small on a guided tour with a difference. The museum’s creativity stations are designed to appeal to the senses and encourage active participation. There is also a children’s room with lots of books and a selection of historical clothes for the children to dress up in.
