Carmen Müller: Of gardens, plants and people. An artistic field research in and around Innsbruck
Gardens and plants are the passion of the South Tyrolean artist Carmen Müller. She is a passionate gardener herself, and has been exploring the most diverse types of gardens for many years as a "garden researcher", processing the impressions gained in the process in painting, graphics or embroidery. Fascinated by nature's richness of form and colour, the artist works on series in which she distances herself from the naturalistic and abstracts and poetizes the will to form inherent in plants.
For the exhibition at aut, Carmen Müller has been travelling in and around Innsbruck since spring 2019, keeping watch, observing, inquiring, photographing, noting and documenting in public and private gardens. The exhibition shows the results of this field research by means of photographs, found objects, excerpts from conversations with gardeners and artistic interpretations of plants. It also makes it tangible how the Covid 19 era and especially the lock-down in spring changed the relationship between people and their gardens.
