Tour of the Alps 2021: Stage finish
The first stage of the Tour of the Alps 2021 is uphill from the beginning. The climbs in the first part of the stage are smaller ramps, which - at least until Sterzing - could be predestined for escapees. Once in the Wipptal valley, the route first follows the side valleys before the demanding serpentines up to the Brenner Pass await.
After the first points of the GPM classification are awarded at the Italian-Austrian border, a fast descent leads to the gates of Innsbruck. In the capital of Northern Tyrol, the riders have to complete a circuit over two laps, where the climb to Axams is particularly eye-catching. This climb was already part of the course at the team time trial of the World Championships in Innsbruck 2018 and even pushed some of the participants to their limits. But the last climb 18 kilometres before the finish is also quite challenging.
No spectators are allowed in the finish area.
