During the next few days it will be warm, but with the air becoming quite sultry at times occasional thunderstorms may occur, especially in the late afternoon and evening.

Things to do: Innsbruck in 24 hours

Experience more. In just one day. Innsbruck in 24 hours.

Do you only have one day? This is still enough to experience the main hotspots in Innsbruck. First pick up an Innsbruck Card and then let the exciting adventures in the Capital of the Alps begin. The following highlights shouldn’t be missed:

Explore the old town and Maria Theresien Street: the Golden Roof, Kaufhaus Tyrol shopping centre, the          Imperial Gardens, etc.

City Tower (viewpoint)

The Imperial Palace & Court Church

Lunch on the Nordkette mountain range

Alpine Zoo visit on the way back into town

Tip: The Innsbruck Card is valid for 24 hours. If it’s activated at 10 am, it can be used until 10 am on the following day. Return trips are free of charge on included forms of public transport and on the “Sightseer” – Innsbruck’s hop-on hop-off bus.

24 hours of alpine-urban experiences to discover.

So much to see, but only got one day? Herzog Friedrich Street in the centre of Innsbruck is the ideal starting point for exciting adventures in the Capital of the Alps. Admire Innsbruck’s famous shining landmark, the Golden Roof, surrounded by colourful façades, bay windows and charming arcades. Plus the magnificent Nordkette mountain range towers over the city with stunning peaks that reach over 2,000 metres above sea level. It’s no wonder this setting is one of the most photographed in Innsbruck.

From here, continue through the arch by the Imperial Palace, past the Tyrolean State Theatre and the bandstand by the pond, to one of Innsbruck’s urban green spaces. The Imperial Gardens with their giant chess board and diverse plants and trees are a wonderful place for a stroll, for pleasant refreshments or to simply relax in the heart of the city – take some time to enjoy it.

Just “around the corner” you’ll find the Imperial Palace with Court Church – one of Innsbruck’s most impressive attractions. Alternatively, the new Kaufhaus Tyrol shopping centre on Maria Theresien Street, opposite the lovely St. Anne’s Column, is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to let their shopping desires run wild: here numerous shops with top brands come together in an architecturally impressive building.

Majestic Nordkette mountain range. An eagle eye’s view of Innsbruck.

If you want to experience Innsbruck from above, we highly recommend a trip to the Seegrube or Hafelekar on the Nordkette mountain range - it’s quick and easy to get there on the Hungerburg funicular and the Nordkettenbahnen cable cars. However, if time is too tight, there is another way to get up above the city: the medieval City Tower. This tower has to be climbed on foot but the views of the old town and surrounding mountains are well-worth the 148 steps. If you decide to treat yourself to a trip up to the Nordkette mountain range, why not enjoy the delicious culinary delights 2,000 metres above sea level? Take quick selfie by the cross on the summit of the Hafelekar – 2,334 metres above sea level – and then stop off at the Alpine Zoo with its amazing alpine wildlife in large, lovingly designed enclosures on your way back down into Innsbruck.
