Sellrain, Gries im Sellrain and St. Sigmund - Praxmar
Get closer to nature in the mountaineering villages
Only 20 villages in Austria have been awarded the “mountaineering village” title. Amongst these are the holiday villages of Sellrain, Gries im Sellrain and St. Sigmund - Praxmar, which are located 20 to 30 kilometres from Innsbruck. The “mountaineering villages” title stands for alpine character, original appearance and archaic charm. But it also means regeneration, pristine nature and authenticity – far removed from après-ski and cable cars. Mountaineering villages are places where nature can simply be nature. And visitors treasure that quality.
In winter, it’s back to the roots with ski touring, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or ice climbing. In summer, the mountain scenery is shaped by incredibly lush alpine meadows and unique alpine roses. Enjoy long hikes, family trails, wildlife watching, summit tours and rock climbing. Multi-day hut hikes are also highly recommended and a wonderful way get closer to the people, the pristine nature and the traditional mountain huts. The mountaineering villages are nestled amongst stunning mountain scenery – between 1200 and 1500 metres above sea level – yet still only 30 minutes away from Innsbruck.
