On Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure will dominate our weather; it will be bright and warm. Then, a low will follow on Thursday bringing quite a few showers and thunderstorms. On Friday, sunny and warm weather will return!

Summit Tours

Hiking to the very top

Are you a mountaineering fanatic? Or would you like to become one? If so, you're in the right place! We'll show you the most beautiful summit tours in the Innsbruck area. Not all of the peaks are difficult to reach and they don’t all require top mountaineering skills.

You don't have to be a mountaineering great like Reinhold Messner to conquer some of the local peaks. Here we have put together an overview of two easy summit tours.

These tours combine the uplifting feeling of reaching the summit with a comfortable journey there. The magic word is: "Bergbahn". Because where there is a mountain lift or cable car, you only have to complete the last stretch of the route up to the summit cross yourself. Then nothing stands between you and the perfect hiking experience.

Find the perfect mountain peak here

Some summit tours only require a short hike, the rest of the route is covered by a mountain lift or cable car. To see these summit tours, choose "easy" in the filters below.

Are you looking for the ultimate mountaineering experience? Would you like to reach the summit under your own steam? If so, choose "difficult". The results will then show routes for experienced mountaineers with good fitness levels.

306 M 306 M
6 KM 6 KM
easy easy
A hike up in the mountains with stunning views that is particularly popular when the alpine roses are in bloom. Route no. 14a. Start from the bottom lift station at Bergbahnen Oberperfuss and take the Peter-Anich gondolas first to Stiglreith at 1,363 metres above sea level and then up to Sulzstich at 1,560 metres above sea level. From there, follow the road for about 40 minutes towards the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut (1,777 m). Just before the hut, turn left. This is the start of the circular hike around Rangger Köpfl, walking time about 1.5 hours. Follow the forest road to Krimpenbachsattel (1,899 m) and then turn right to continue up to the summit cross on Rangger Köpfl (1,939 m). From there, follow the signs north to the Alpenrosensteig trail and follow it downhill to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. Plenty of benches await along the way where you can stop for a relaxing break and the trail offers unique views of the Inn Valley. From the Rosskogelhütte, you can take the ski slope or the forest road back to the starting point. If the gondolas are closed, you can start the hike at Stiglreith car park (fees apply). From there, it takes 1.5 hours to walk to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. Highlights: A popular high-altitude hike above the tree line, wonderful when the alpine roses are in bloom in June, passes a summit cross and has unique views of the Inn Valley and the surrounding mountains. A fountain with spring water can be found on the edge of the path below the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut and there is also a reservoir.

Summit tour: Sonnkarköpfl

720 M 720 M
6.6 KM 6.6 KM
medium medium
This hike starts behind the Pfaffenhofer Alm mountain hut (=Widdersbergalm) and zigzags ever higher up the mountain. After about 45 minutes, you will come to a turnoff. Follow the signs towards Sonnkarköpfl. Once the trail leaves the forest, it continues over barren terrain, first on a north-facing slope and later through a corrie on a south-western slope up to the summit. From the Sonnkarköpfl peak, hike back the same way until you reach the turnoff that leads east to the "Oberhofer Melkalm". This section takes you downhill over vast fields of alpine roses to the Sonnkarhütte mountain hut (not open to the public) and then over alpine meadows to the Oberhofer Melkalm mountain hut. Finally, take the Bettlersteig trail that starts behind the hut and follow it back to the starting point at the Pfaffenhofer Alm mountain hut (=Widdersbergalm). Tips | notes: It is possible to get a driving permit (fees apply) from the local authority in Pfaffenhofen. This saves you about 2.5 hours of walking time. The journey is possible in a normal car. Please note: after heavy rainfall, the road is difficult to drive and an all-terrain vehicle is recommended.

Summit tour: Wankspitze

5.3 KM 5.3 KM

From Arzkasten car park, hike past the guesthouse of the same name, turn right after the fountain and then follow the forest road north towards the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. After about 15 minutes, you will come to a fork in the road. Take the left hand path that turns off before the bridge and continue along the "Bachweg" trail through the forest. The path provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy impressive views of the Mieming Range, for example the Wankspitze peak (2,209 m). After just under an hour, the trail turns sharply right, away from the stream, and a short but quite steep path leads straight up to a forest road. From there, it's only a few metres to the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. For the hike back, you can either double back along the same route or follow the forest road. From the Lehnberghaus, a hiking trail leads uphill towards "Lacke", first climbing up through alpine meadows and then continuing through the forest. When you arrive at Lacke, you'll find a giant picture frame and an impressive viewing platform with views that stretch far along the Inn Valley and over the Mieming Plateau. From Lacke, you continue towards Wankspitze peak. Hike north along the wooded ridge and follow the trail as it snakes upwards and finally follows the final ridge right up to the summit cross. The Wankspitze is located in front of the rugged peaks of the Mieming Range and displays high alpine character. It offers fantastic views over the Mieming Plateau, along the Inn Valley to Innsbruck and south to the Stubai Alps.

Hafelekar peak

1.5 KM 1.5 KM
easy easy
You can take the Innsbruck Nordkettenbahnen lifts from the centre of Innsbruck up to the mountain lift station at Hafelekar, which is located 2,256 metres above sea level. From there, an easy path leads up to Hafelekar peak. The summit offers breathtaking views of two different worlds. On one side, you look south over the city of Innsbruck, the Inn Valley and the landscapes beyond. In the other direction, rugged rocks reach as far as the eye can see: you are standing at the gateway to the Karwendel mountains and looking deep into the Alps. The hike from the mountain lift station up to the summit cross is not very strenuous. However, good footwear is essential.

This tour starts in the Tanneben district and leads over glorious alpine meadows to the dilapidated Schmalzgrubenalm mountain hut. From there, the hike continues through the woods, emerging from the forest shortly before the Salfeinssee lake. When you come to the lake, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Inn Valley and stunning reflections of the Kalkkögel mountains. The route then continues south along the ridge between the Fotscher Valley and the Senders Valley, leading over four peaks along the way: Grieskogel (2,168 m), Breitschwemmkogel (2,264 m), Angerbergkopf (2,400 m) and Schaflegerkogel (2,504 m). From the Schaflegerkogel, the route leads back via the Furggesalm mountain hut and the Alpengasthof Bergheim alpine guesthouse, before finally following the forest road back along the Fotscher Valley to the starting point. Hikers must be in good shape, have high fitness levels and demonstrate excellent stamina for this tour!

From Oberperfuss to Rietz and the Peter-Anich-Hütte mountain hut. This hike starts at an altitude of 1,383 metres above sea level in the car park in Stiglreith. You can get to the car park by taking the panoramic Panoramastraße road, which branches off to the right from Oberperfuss Berg. If the lifts are running, you can take the gondola up to Sulzstich and save yourself 40 minutes of walking time. The first section of the hike follows trail no. 155 to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut (1,777 m), where you can stop in for a break and a bite to eat. The walking time from Stiglreith to the Rosskogelhütte is about 1¼ hours. From there, the route continues along a forest road to the Krimpenbachsattel at 1,899 m, before following a trail down to the Inzinger Alm mountain hut (also known as the Hundstalalm) at 1,641 m. The hut offers food and accommodation. The section from Stiglreith to the Inzinger Alm mountain hut can be completed in a good 2½ hours. From the Inzinger Alm, the hike continues up along a trail past the little "Alpl" hut to the highest point of the tour, the Rauher Kopf peak at an altitude of 2,302 metres above sea level. From there, the alpine trail heads west and then downhill to the south, before following a stream to the Flaurlinger Alm mountain hut, which is located at an altitude of 1,613 metres above sea level and is another place where you can replenish your energy levels and stay overnight. The walking time from the Inzinger Alm to the Flaurlinger Alm is about 3½ hours. From the Flaurlinger Alm, the route leads further into the valley for a short distance to the neighbouring Oberhofer Galtalm mountain hut, which also offers food and accommodation. Behind the hut, a path leads uphill to the west and then turns to continue north, mostly across the slope, to the dilapidated Neuburger Hütte. Walking time 1½ hours. From there, you follow the trail down to the Pfaffenhofer Alm mountain hut (also known as the Widdersberger Alm) at 1,694 metres above sea level. This hut also offers food and accommodation. Walking time about 30 minutes. The final section of this hike leads up through the forest, due to a rock fall partially on a temporary path, to the picturesque Peter-Anich-Hütte mountain hut (1,910 m), where you can enjoy a bite to eat and spend the night. Highlights: The Peter-Anich-Höhensteig trail links the northern Stubai Alps and stays up high, giving hikers the opportunity to enjoy fresh mountain air the whole way. The trail is named after Peter Anich, who was a cartographer and probably the region's most famous son. The Anich Hueber Museum in Oberperfuss is open on request. The route is marked and signposted throughout as the Peter-Anich-Höhensteig. The hike takes you through wonderful high alpine landscapes with unique views. Water bottles can be filled at the huts with the purest spring water.

From the Krimpenbachsattel col (1,899 m), experienced hikers with alpine experience and a good head for heights can follow the trail that leads up to the summit of Rosskogel mountain (2,646) via the north ridge. The ridge is a steep climb but the views from the summit make it well-worth the effort. The three-thousand-metre-high peaks of the Stubai Valley feel close enough to touch and the Lüsens Valley is a real eye-catcher directly opposite. To the left and right are many other mountains that are predominantly ski touring destinations.
