Forecast

Dry summer weather will struggle today. Humid maritime air will dominate our weather on Wednesday and will bring sunshine, clouds and thunderstorms alternating.

Tendency

The area of low pressure will only move on slowly, meaning the weather conditions will stay much the same tomorrow. Only on Friday will drier and warmer air gain the upper hand.

Nordkettenbahnen cable cars ski area

Description

The ski area on the Nordkette mountain range, which can be reached in just 20 minutes from the centre of Innsbruck using the funicular and cable car, is not only a haven for ski and snowboard enthusiasts, but also for sun worshippers and for all those who simply want to savour the breathtakingly beautiful views of the city.

With a gradient of over 70%, the downhill run via the notorious “Karrinne” from the Hafelekar (2,256 m) to the City skiing on the Nordkette

The Nordkette-Seegrube ski area is a winter adventure playground with breathtaking city views. The resort is located just 20 minutes from the centre of Innsbruck. Lift stations are found by the Congress in the city centre and by the Löwenhaus restaurant on the River Inn. The Seegrube is set 1,900 metres above sea level amidst breathtaking natural scenery and is home to the Nordkette Skylinepark – the world’s only “Incity Snowpark”. From the Seegrube, the Hafelekarbahn cable car runs up to the Hafelekar, located over 2,200 metres above sea level. The Hafelekar is also the starting point for the “Karrinne” – an extreme ski run that is perfect for adrenaline junkies. The “Karrinne” has a gradient of 70% and is only suitable for ski and snowboard experts. In good snow conditions, it’s possible to ski or board all the way back down to Hungerburg.

Mountain adventures for freestylers

The “Karrinne” ski run leads back down to the Seegrube, where freestylers can enjoy even more action in the Skylinepark. This snow park is built like a skate park for snowboarders. It features jibs and kickers ranging from four to 16 metres, as well as fun features like the DownTube and JumpBox. The newest feature is a medium kicker line with a twelve metre step-down. The park also offers stunning views of Innsbruck and is located right by the Cloud 9 igloo bar – the perfect place to celebrate after an exciting day in the Nordkette Skylinepark.

Children, parents and families

The Seegrube is also a great destination for children. The magic carpet, snow hills and nursery slopes guarantee excitement for the whole family. Childcare is available and the Cloud 9 igloo bar offers comfortable sun loungers for parents. Snuggly blankets and sheepskins, chillout music and hot or cold cocktails make relaxed winter sunbathing even sweeter.

Innsbruck’s Nordkettenbahnen lifts & cable cars

The Nordkette-Seegrube ski area features one funicular, two cable cars and two chairlifts, as well as a magic carpet for beginners. If you want to get right to the top of the Hafelekar, you will need to take the funicular and both cable cars. The funicular runs from Congress Innsbruck to Hungerburg – the lift stations are easy to recognise thanks to the distinctive design with curved white roofs by Zaha Hadid, a star architect from London. From Hungerburg, the Seegrubenbahn cable car leads up to the Seegrube. Finally, the Hafelekarbahn cable car runs from the Seegrube up to the Gipfelhaus restaurant above the “Karrinne” ski run on the Hafelekar. From the Seegrube, a double chairlift runs west to Frau-Hitt-Warte. Another double chairlift is located just below the Seegrube lift station.
