Exploring the easy hiking trails in the mountains around Innsbruck is a wonderful way to spend your holiday and also lots of fun for children. Select a route from our network of family-friendly trails. Most family hikes include special highlights for children – either along the route or at the destination. For example playgrounds, an enchanted forest or flowing water to splash around in and discover nature.

Schöne Aussicht

A family-friendly and almost level walk from Grünberg car park that leads east along a forest road to the "Schöne Aussicht" viewpoint. From there, you can enjoy peace and quiet with wonderful views of Mieming and Wildermieming. There is also a bench where you can sit back and enjoy. Follow the same route back or continue via the hamlets of Wald, Thal and Finsterfiecht back to the starting point.

Schöne Aussicht - Hohe Brücke

This route starts at the underpass in the north of Zirl and leads towards the "Schießstand" (shooting range). From there, you continue up the steps to a path that leads gently uphill to the "Schöne Aussicht" viewpoint (route no. 2), where you can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The route then continues along the Vogellehrweg bird trail to Hochzirl (route no. 15). At the spring, take route no. 13 down to the Schlossbach stream, where you get beautiful views of the Karwendel railway bridge, the "Hohe Schlossbachbrücke". The route then continues over the bridge and uphill towards Leithen. When you come to a clearing in the forest, take the left-hand path to the Schlosssteig trail and continue past the Fragenstein castle ruins and back to Zirl. The route can also be completed in the opposite direction.

The Schwarzmoos circuit in Kühtai

This hike starts at the multi-purpose building (tourist information) and leads steadily uphill past the Kaiser-Maximilian-Hütte mountain hut (not open in summer) to the Schwarzmoos plateau and back.

This hike leads east out of the Raiffeisenbank car park towards Gasthof Post. From there, cross the main road and walk between the Sonnenhof and Spielmann guesthouses towards St. Georgskirche church. Shortly before reaching the chapel, turn left to follow a dirt road across the fields to Affenhausen. Continue along the Wiesenweg trail, which initially leads left and slightly downhill before turning right at the next crossing towards the Nothelferkapelle chapel. Shortly afterwards, you'll see signs for the "Seerosenteich" (water lily pond). Follow the route as it leads along the left edge of the forest to the small pond. If you would like to do a circular hike, continue through the forest for just under half an hour until you come to a crossing with a forest road. Turn right and you'll soon see a yellow hiking sign that points the way back to Mieming/Obermieming. Once back in the alpine meadows, follow the paths towards St. Georgskirche church, which you'll soon see up on the right some distance away. From there, it's not far until you're back at the starting point.

Sellrain - Gasse - St Quirin - Tauegert - Sellrain

Routes 10 and 10 a: To St. Quirin and from Gasse to Tauegert, approx. From the village hall, take route no. 10 to Steinhof and continue to Gasse-Tauegert. From Steinhof, take route no. 10 a to the St. Quirin mountain chapel and then the Besinnungsweg (Path of Reflection) and the Kreuzweg (the Way of the Cross) to Gasse-Tauegert back to Sellrain.

Sellrain-Grinzens-Tanneben-Sellrain

Circular hike - Sellrain - Grinzens - Tanneben- Sellrain This route starts at the parish church and follows the "Tafelweg" trail to Grinzens-Neder and then the road to Tanneben. From Tanneben, it is possible to continue along the road into the Fotscher Valley or turn right to follow the Poststeig trail to Sellrain.

Senderstal – Kemater Alm – Adolf Pichler Hütte

An easy hike and nice excursion in the idyllic "Senderstal" (Senders Valley) in Grinzens, surrounded by the majestic Kalkkögel mountains. The hike starts in the Kohlstatt district of Grinzens and follows the forest road uphill through the Senders Valley to the Kemater Alm mountain hut (walking time: approx. 2 hours). From there, a hiking trail continues to the higher Adolf Pichler Hütte mountain hut (walking time: approx. 45 minutes).  The hike can be shortened by driving or mountain biking up the "Senderstal Forstweg" forest road (toll for cars - € 3) to the car park at the Kemater Alm and then continuing on foot from there up to the Adolf Pichler Hütte.

Sistranser Alm mountain hut

Hike from Sistrans to the authentic Sistranser Alm mountain hut. The tour starts with a gentle ascent through the village of Sistrans to the edge of the forest (car park) followed by a continuous winding climb with hairpin bends to the Sistranser Alm mountain hut. From there, you can reach the Aldranser Alm mountain hut by following the Almenweg 1600 trail slightly downhill. Our tip: if you want to cover even more vertical metres, you can continue along a moderately steep path through the high forest to the panoramic Isshütte mountain hut (not open to the public).

Sonnalmweg trail

This route leads from the STB tram stop "Natters Hölltal" along Prof.-H.Wopfner-Weg towards the Sonnalm and then through the forest to Nattererboden restaurant. From there, it continues via the Eichhof guesthouse to Natterer See lake.

The Troie-Herrensteig trail

An easy circular hike. Short route description: From the Dorfplatz village square in Natters, follow Magdalenenweg road for about 100 metres and then turn left onto the Toienweg trail towards Natterer See lake (an approx. 45 minute walk). Cross Natterer Seestrasse road and take the Herrensteig trail (an approx. 45 minute walk) back to the village centre. The path is in the dappled shade and there are benches along the way for a relaxing break.
