Exploring the easy hiking trails in the mountains around Innsbruck is a wonderful way to spend your holiday and also lots of fun for children. Select a route from our network of family-friendly trails. Most family hikes include special highlights for children – either along the route or at the destination. For example playgrounds, an enchanted forest or flowing water to splash around in and discover nature.

Oberer Wiesenweg trail in Oberperfuss

Route no. 6a. From the Kammerland district, follow hiking route no. 6 to Plörl, continue along route 6a through a short, steep forested area and then turn left to cross the alpine meadows towards the hamlet of Berchtesgaden and back to Kammerland.

Oberperfussberg - Stiglreith

Route no. 9a. From the free car park by the church in Oberperfuss-Berg, cross the road and head south, walking uphill to the edge of the forest on hiking trail no. 9. This trail meets route no. 9b, which continues towards Stiglreith to the Egghöfe settlement. The hike is very scenic and leads through woods and meadows with stunning views.

Taxach panoramic viewpoint

Follow the route past the Murmelspielplatz playground, turn right just before the bridge and continue towards the Kneipp therapy facility. After 300 metres, cross the bridge over the Zirmbach stream and follow the forest road to the "Taxachhöfe" viewpoint.

The panoramic road between Stiglreith and Oberperfuss

From the village centre of Oberperfuss, follow the main road to the district of Oberperfuss Berg and then continue along the marked "Panoramastraße" panoramic road to Stiglreith. This hike can also be shortened by starting at the church in Oberperfuss Berg, the car park is free of charge. The route is very scenic with wonderful views. The road to Stiglreith is closed to cars from November until the end of March. Fees apply to park in the Stiglreith car park (note: coins required).

Panoramaweg trail Axams (32)

The Axams section of the Panoramaweg trail is an easily accessible forest road that stretches from Grinzens to Mutters. The route covers very few vertical metres and runs along the edge of the forest. With good footwear, it is an ideal hiking trail for the whole family with breathtaking views of the Nordkette mountains and the Inn Valley. It is also possible to break the Panoramaweg trail up into shorter sections. Start of the Panoramaweg: from/to Grinzens (no. 32) to Axams (32), Birgitz (32) and Götzens (32) and from there on to Natters (19) and Mutters (19). The total length of the route is 7 km.

Panoramic trail on the western alpine plateau

The Panoramaweg trail runs to the south and southeast of the western alpine plateau and leads from the villages of Mutters, Natters, Götzens, Birgitz and Axams to Grinzens. It is possible to start the hike in any of the villages. The route primarily follows forest trails and there are plenty of benches along the way for relaxing and taking a break. Along the route, there are sections with beautiful views of the villages on the plateau, the Inn Valley, the city of Innsbruck and the Nordkette mountain range. With good footwear, it is an ideal hiking trail for the whole family. The trail covers a total distance of about ten kilometres and there are places to stop for a break in each of the villages along the way.  

Patscherkofel – summit

The easy Panoramaweg walking trail features wonderful panoramic views and leads from the Patscherkofel mountain lift station to the Gipfelstube restaurant (2,248 m) with its panoramic views. Follow the same route back.

Ranggen - Eben - Inzing

This hike starts from the parish church in Ranggen, car park available, and heads south along the main road towards the Ried district. It then continues along the Peter-Anich-Weg trail to the hamlet of Eben before following the main road downhill to Inzing. From there, the route heads east to the Schärmerhof and then through the forest back up to the starting point in Ranggen.
