A leisurely hike high above Innsbruck
The new Patscherkofelbahn lift takes you up to the mountain lift station, which is the start of today's hike. The first destination along the hike is the Patscherkofel Gipfelhaus, which is a mountain restaurant that you can get to either along a well-prepared forest road or an easy-to-navigate mountain path. From the Gipfelhaus, you continue east towards the Boscheben alpine guesthouse, where you can enjoy hearty Tyrolean cuisine. The restaurant's wonderful terrace boasts views of the secluded Viggar Valley and the city of Innsbruck with its impressive Nordkette mountain range. It is also possible to spot the Zugspitze massif and the first peaks of South Tyrol.
The Zirbenweg trail, which is a well-known panoramic path and nature trail that links the mountains of Glungezer and Patscherkofel, leads you on a safe, easy and botanical hike through the largest primeval Swiss stone pine forest in the Alps. There are numerous benches along the path, as well as information boards that provide interesting descriptions of the trail.
Once back at the Patscherkofel mountain lift station, you take the lift back down into the valley.
