Mühlau

Arzler Alm
An insider tip with stunning natural scenery. This route takes you along a woodland experience trail through the gorge. Beautiful viewpoints and various display boards await along the way. At the end of the trail, you come to a forest road that follows the Rosnerweg and Arzleralmweg trails to the Arzler Alm mountain hut.
Ascent:
From the Schweinsbrücke bridge, head north along the right-hand side of the Klammbach stream, before crossing to the left of the stream, continuing to the Teufelskanzel and then crossing the wooden bridge towards the "Hexenkuchl" (witches kitchen). From there, turn left onto the cart track and follow it uphill as it becomes slightly steeper and follows the stream. The path leads past a small waterfall, display boards and plenty of places where you can stop to rest your legs before reaching the mighty avalanche barrier that tames the avalanches in the Mühlau Gorge. Follow the route around the right-hand side of the avalanche barrier and continue up through the forest to the Rosnerweg trail. Turn left onto the Rosnerweg and follow it until you come to a fork in the path. Turn right and follow the signs for the Arzler Almweg trail, following the road gently uphill until you reach the Arzler Alm mountain hut.
Alternative ascent
It is also possible to hike up via the Amarellersteig trail: Shortly before the Schweinsbrücke bridge, turn off onto the paved road towards Kloster Karmel (a Carmelite convent). From there, head into the forest above the convent and follow the narrow forest trail west until you come to a fork in the path. At the fork, turn right to follow the steeper path uphill to the Rosnerweg trail and then immediately continue straight on back into the forest. Follow the signs for "Wintersteig Arzleralm" (the Arzler Alm winter trail). Go left past the avalanche barrier, cross the forest trail, turn right for a short distance and then, just before the wide avalanche path, turn left to follow the wooded ridge up to the Arzler Alm mountain hut, approaching from below the playground.
For the hike back down, follow the Wintersteig trail to the Rosnerweg trail and then continue along the Amarellersteig trail back down to Mühlau.
