Forecast

An area of low pressure is spreading over Central Europe and we are under its influence, unfortunately. We will therefore see changing, but mostly dense cloud with occasional showers.

Tendency

Behind today’s weather fronts, the airflow will quickly swing to the south and bring us once again warm, subtropical air masses. Under the influence of foehn winds, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be warm.

Maria Locherboden pilgrimage church

Wallfahrtskirche Maria Locherboden
Locherboden, 6423  Mötz

Opening Hours

open all day

East of Mötz is the Locherboden plateau. Here, at 816 metres above sea level, stands the Maria Locherboden church of pilgrimage.

It has its origins in the middle of the 18th century, when an image of the Madonna was installed next to the entrance to a cave where a worker had been saved from a collapsed mine. Soon, many pilgrims flocked to the cave. One of them was Maria Kalb from Rum near Innsbruck, who had suffered from an incurable disease for many years and had little hope of recovery. In 1871 she undertook the strenuous journey to the cave – and was miraculously cured. In 1881 a chapel was built on the site, where it remains today.

The increasing number of visitors led to the erection of a church above the cave in 1901.

Night-time pilgrimage: lantern walk with church service from May until October on the 11th of each month. Start at 8.00 pm
Meeting point: car park below Locherboden, in all weathers!
