Electronic music on the mountain – Nordkette Wetterleuchten
July 2019
Wetterleuchten means summer lightning: a silent storm in the distance, tingling excitement in the air. The electronic music festival at the Seegrube takes its name from this natural phenomenon. Located 1,900 m above sea level, the festival invites visitors to camp out every second summer in a place where skiers and snowboarders race around in winter. Concerts and DJs provide the soundtrack for this alpine music experience – where kindred spirits sit around the campfire, celebrate, chill and enjoy the music. The city of Innsbruck seems a world away but can actually be reached in just 20 minutes. The number of visitors is limited to 1,100 people – a refreshing change in comparison to the mass crowds at other festivals.
Directions to the music festival
The relaxed festival is traffic jam free and only accessible via the Nordkettenbahnen lifts. The return lift ride is included in the price of your festival ticket. Experienced festival-goers often take their own supplies but there is also a restaurant in case you forget something. Warning when packing: visitors are not allowed to bring glass bottles or alcoholic beverages. The music experience takes place every second year (odd years) high up in the Nordkette mountain range.
