The area of high pressure which has influenced our weather for the last few days is moving towards the Balkans; at the same time weather fronts accompanied by thunderstorms will push in from France. However, they will not reach us before the evening and this is why we will get another sunny summer day with high temperatures.

Saturday morning will still be cloudy and showers cannot be excluded. In the course of the day, however, the sun will gain the upper hand. Before Sunday the weather will be fine again.

Gries im Sellrain

Holiday hotspot

Gries im Sellrain is a mountaineering village set 1,200 metres above sea level and 25 kilometres away from Innsbruck. The village offers a remarkable combination of cosy places to stay, family-friendly facilities and a unique proximity to nature. In summer, Gries im Sellrain is the perfect starting point for countless mountain hikes and unforgettable natural attractions – from the extraordinary alpine roses and the wonderful Sellrain Valley mountain summer to wildlife watching in the unique stag rutting season. In winter, the village is transformed into a snow sports destination with its own small lift – perfect for tobogganing and ski touring and only a few minutes away from the amazing ski resort of Kühtai.

This charming little village with just under 600 residents has masterfully preserved traditional farming culture. It’s an ideal holiday destination for anyone who wants to get away from mass tourism while still being in the heart of a skiing and hiking region.

And that feeling of excitement when the yearned-for mountain hut comes into view after an eventful climb. A place where refreshments, healthy delights and schnapps await you – and all typically homemade.

The mountain huts are always worth a visit, for example the Juifenalm, the Sonnbergalm and the Lüsensalm. The Juifenalm offers particularly special views: from Zischgeles mountain, past the Freihut, all the way to the Sellrainer Sonnberg – stunning peaks that enchant with natural beauty and rugged, steep slopes. The hut is the ideal starting point for summit tours of the Windegg (2,577 m) or the Roter Kogel (2,832 m). The Sellrainer Höhenwanderweg (the Sellrain Valley high-altitude hiking trail) is also within reach from Gries via the Heuriesenweg trail. From there, it’s onwards to Oberperfuss at about 2,000 metres above sea level.

The “Murmel-Abenteuerspielplatz” (Marmot Adventure Playground) is great for families. Children can let off steam, while parents enjoy soaking up the sun on the terrace at Cafe & Restaurant Marmota.

Guests staying in the Sellrain Valley receive a welcome pack containing all of the important information needed for their stay, including details about the amazing free summer programme: e-bike tours, farm visits, creative bread baking courses, Tyrolean evenings, open-air concerts, guided hikes – free hiking bus included.

The cross-country ski trail is illuminated at night – for even more enjoyment under the unmistakable starry skies of the Sellrain Valley. For anyone who has never been on cross-country skis before, a cross-country skiing taster day is the perfect way to give this wonderful winter sport a try.
