The mystical Goldbichl
Grand, mysterious and steeped in history: the Goldbichl – an elevation between the villages of Igls-Vill and Patsch – is a historic site in the heart of Alps that was once used for burning offerings. Around 4,000 years ago, this place was a powerful sanctuary with mystical power. Today, it’s home to an archaeological trail that takes visitors on an exciting journey into the past. Illustrated information boards line the route to the prehistoric site and provide information about the period from 2000 BC to 1500 BC.
Bronze and Iron Age artefacts that were found on the Goldbichl can be admired today in the tourist office located in the “Haus des Gastes” in the centre of Igls. Visitors can also see a model of the Goldbichl sanctuary.
