Forecast

This period of fine weather will have to take a short break now. Cooler air from the Atlantic will replace the warmer air from the Mediterranean, a process that is always accompanied by thunderstorms in summer.

Tendency

We can easily bear today’s unfavourable holiday weather as friendlier weather will return on Monday and persist for the next few days.

Autumn in Axams, Birgitz & Grinzens

A colorful time in the country

Autumn brings a final burst of nature’s most beautiful colours before winter casts its spell on the holiday villages of Axams, Birgitz and Grinzens. Around here they say, “Es herbstelt” (It’s autumning) – referring not only to the magnificent autumn colours, the kite-flying and the bittersweet perishability. But also the stunning sunsets as the days get shorter. The cheerful gatherings in mountain huts. And the cosy evenings with delicious homemade food in traditional restaurants. Many fascinating and entertaining local customs, hallmarks of a living tradition, have become part of autumn life here – and continue to delight guests year after year.

A golden time of enjoyment

Autumn in the holiday villages of Axams, Birgitz & Grinzens features an excellent hiking programme (link), combined with cultural events and delicious local delicacies. A colourful and tempting variety of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, freshly pressed juices and rustic farmers’ schnapps are available for purchase at the farmers’ market in Axams (link). The restaurants and guesthouses beckon with classic autumn dishes, including hearty soups, game and "Bauernschmaus" (a traditional dish of meat, sauerkraut and potatoes). “Törggelen” is also a particular highlight.

There is a long tradition of “Törggelen” in Tyrol, South Tyrol and beyond and it has become a very popular way to spend a wonderful and delicious autumn evening. Roasted chestnuts, homemade “Speck” (dry-cured ham), delicious Tyrolean “Krapfen” (stuffed fried dough) and exclusive local wines served in a rustic setting become a true culinary experience – to be enjoyed with family or friends and accompanied by our warm hosts, who take pride in the precious gifts that Mother Nature grants us throughout the year. So when “it’s autumning” in Axams, Birgitz & Grinzens – it’s time to gather around the table!
