Parades and celebrations in Axams

The traditional "Umagang"

Traditions define the character of a place. Customs give it its personality and its appeal. In Axams-Birgitz-Grinzens, traditions and customs have been treasured for this very reason – and our guests appreciate this too. The parades held during the summer months – also colloquially known as “Umagang” – are particularly impressive events that involve traditional “Ferggelen” – precious wood-carved figures of saints – being carried through the village to magnificent altars.

The procession parades through the streets of Axams-Birgitz-Grinzens, accompanied by church dignitaries, the Axams shooting club, delegations of veterans and a variety of other local associations, as well as music by the local band. This extraordinary event plays a major role in the history of Axams-Birgitz-Grinzens – uniting culture, faith and community spirit.

Dates for the open-air concerts and processions, you will find in our events calendar!
