Forecast

Today’s weather forecast starts with really good news: Central Europe will fall under the influence of the Azores High today! However, this process will take a bit of time as it is a very large area of high pressure we are dealing with here. The weather will therefore be quite pleasant, but we should not expect a particularly warm day.

Tendency

The new area of high pressure is building directly over the Alps and will not move anywhere for quite a long time.

Front window nativity scenes

Christmas without a nativity scene is impossible to imagine in Tyrol, where ornately carved and lovingly maintained Christmas scenes are displayed in living rooms and under Christmas trees throughout the region. In the holiday village of Mutters, nativity scenes are commonly placed on windowsills to be admired by passers-by. The best way to experience these works of art is on a walking tour with nativity scene expert Klaus.

Free with the guest card

The most beautiful nativity scenes in Mutters are displayed on windowsills throughout the village. Discover these wonderful pieces on a winter walk or view them as part of a guided tour. The TVB offers guided tours on selected Wednesday evenings at 5.30 pm. Tours include almost 30 different nativity scenes that are illuminated at night. If you would like to take part in a tour, please register at the tourist office in Mutters no later than 6 pm on the day before. If you will be travelling from Innsbruck and don’t have a car, you can take the STB tram (latest departure time 4.47 pm) from the main train station in Innsbruck. The tour lasts approx. one hour.

Klaus, the nativity scene guide

The nativity scene tour starts with a schnapps and a warm welcome by Klaus, your nativity scene expert and guide. The tour is also accompanied by a musician who walks with you from house to house. Halfway through the tour, you'll stop at the historic village bread oven, which was used to bake bread for the entire village 100 years ago. Today, the oven is home to one of the many nativity scenes you'll pass on this tour. After a short break with Christmas music, you'll continue on to the centre of Mutters. At the end of the nativity scene tour, you'll stop off at the charming Stauder village inn to admire the last nativity scene while your hosts serve steaming Tyrolean barley soup.

Dates: 21 and 28December 2016, 4 and 11 January 2017

Nativity scene tours are available in German. If you don’t have time on the dates listed, you can admire the nativity scenes anytime on your own. Simply take the tram to Mutters and enjoy a gentle stroll through the village. You may not get to enjoy the pleasure of Klaus’ company but the nativity scenes are illuminated in windows from mid-December until mid-January and are just waiting to be admired. Stopping in at the village inn at the end of your walk is also highly recommended.
