An alpine journey with special flair
There are many great ways to experience Tyrolean flair and explore the region’s diverse natural surroundings. One particularly charming way is to take a journey on the Stubaitalbahn (STB tramline). This tram is a real jewel for railway enthusiasts and curious explorers alike. Carriages have been chauffeuring guests along this historically significant route since 1904. Today, you can simply sit back and enjoy the ride as the tram leisurely weaves past colourful flowering meadows and high mountains, over impressive bridges and through tranquil villages, including the holiday villages of Mutters and Natters. After a good hour and countless breathtaking views, you’ll arrive at Fulpmes in the Stubai Valley. This is the end of the line for the tram, which then makes its way back to the Capital of the Alps.
Travel by tram to a hiking paradise
The fantastic views on the journey to the Stubai Valley will leave you wanting more. To get even closer to Tyrolean nature, try some of the unforgettable hikes between Innsbruck and Fulpmes. Many of the hikes even start right from the Stubaitalbahn tram stops, such as the trail from Kreith-Mutters station that leads to the charming Kreither Alm mountain hut and then down to Alpengasthaus Stockerhof. After enjoying the wonderful views and replenishing your energy levels, you can continue on through picturesque larch forests and colourful flowering meadows to the Stubaitalbahn station in Telfes, where the tram awaits for the return journey to Innsbruck.
From Mutters/Natters, the journey to the centre of Innsbruck takes just 30 minutes. It’s also a 30 minute journey to Fulpmes, where you can take a connecting bus directly to the Stubai Glacier.
Tickets are also available at the Tourist Information Mutters.
