Sights and attractions in Innsbruck
Historical treasures and modern architecture, untamed nature and urban bustle. Sightseeing in Innsbruck is the height of contrasts, especially the combination of the city and mountains.
In the historic old town, you practically stumble over Habsburg heritage as you walk under the shady arcades and along the medieval streets, including buildings such as Innsbruck's landmark the Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace or the Court Church. Innsbruck is also home to sporting highlights at Bergisel Ski Jump, a famous sports facility in a place of historical significance. The jump is also a modern architectural highlight that was given a contemporary redesign by star architect Zaha Hadid.
A walk leads to the Triumphal Arch and, just a short drive away, Ambras Castle stands proudly on a nearby hill. This historic building is a reminder of a love story that was not really befitting of the House of Habsburg but all the more heartfelt as a result. Finally, there's the Nordkette mountain range, the gateway to the magnificent Karwendel mountains. A majestic eye-catcher and destination in one. You can get there from the city centre in 20 minutes on the mountain lifts and cable cars.
