Opening Hours

A lovely square with plenty of cafes and bars where you can relax and enjoy. Leading the way is Café Central, an Innsbruck institution. This traditional Viennese-style coffee house is the perfect place to read the paper and have a chat. The cafe also serves excellent hot meals, which can be enjoyed on the spacious terrace in good weather. Alternatively, you can enjoy freshly prepared lunch menus every day at Kostbar, waffles and coffee at the Loacker Store or try one of the other cafes and restaurants. There are even a few small speciality shops that sell goods such as tea and fresh fruit. If you are looking for fine dining, the Sitzwohl restaurant is the one for you. If you visit on Friday, you will also get to wander by the weekly farmers' market.

Architects Johannes Wiesflecker and Rainer Schmidt; light art by Peter Sandbichler, 2004/2005. The idea behind it: a square that provides space for urban activities. The light installation by Peter Sandbichler displays daily changing colour variations in the passage. Instead of planting vegetation in the square, a "vertical alpine garden" was created: planted stone gabions (wire mesh baskets filled with stones) form a green wall. There is a retractable membrane roof for events.
