An area of low pressure is spreading over Central Europe and we are under its influence, unfortunately. We will therefore see changing, but mostly dense cloud with occasional showers.

Tendency

Behind today’s weather fronts, the airflow will quickly swing to the south and bring us once again warm, subtropical air masses. Under the influence of foehn winds, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be warm.

Ski touring recommendations

This page will give you some ideas for ski tours in the region of Innsbruck. A great way to get a wonderful insight into the wonders of winter, especially under good conditions. These are, of course, only suggestions, as the final responsibility lies with the tourer to inform him or herself about current conditions before setting out.

Ski touring is a sport in which the risks should never be underestimated. We cannot accept any responsibility for snow conditions, avalanche risks and other outside influences. Every ski tourer is responsible for their own adequate avalanche protection and should check all current conditions with Tyrol's Avalanche Warning Service.

Ski tour on Grünberg (1497m)

455 M 455 M
easy easy
A beautiful and peaceful piste tour with a relatively low altitude difference. Perfect for beginners. Starting point is at the car park next to the Grünberg lift valley station, and the climb follows the right-hand side of the old piste. An alternative would be to follow the forest path towards Zwischensimmering, then take a left at Grünberg. The descent is via the piste and back to the car park.

Ski Tour on the 'Lacke' (1,704m)

570 M 570 M
easy easy
This ski tour is suitable for beginners. The ascent initially leads along the toboggan run above the stream but soon turns left to follow a cleared path up through the trees. Continue uphill until you reach the toboggan run. Just before reaching the Lehnberghaus mountain hut, take a right and follow the path up through the trees to the Lacke viewpoint, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Inn Valley. The descent follows the same route.

Grünstein Gorge Ski Tour (2,272m)

1127 M 1.127 M
medium medium
This ski tour is suitable for experienced tourers, and knowledge of deep snow and avalanches is obligatory. Start at the Arzkasten car park and head along the toboggan run. Cross the stream and turn left. The route heads uphill by a clearing in the forest before rejoining the sledge run. Continue to the Lehnberghaus alpine hut and head north to the "Hölle", before going through the sloping corrie to the Grünstein Gorge. Descent is via the same path.

Handschuhspitzen Ski Tour (2,319m)

1253 M 1.253 M
hard hard
This intermediate to difficult tour begins at the Arzkasten car park, and offers many interesting sections. It is, however, a long and challenging ski tour with a climb of almost 340 metres. The ascent takes about 5-and-a-half hours. Observe the information provided by the avalanche warning service, as this route is often plagued by avalanches, especially through the steep corrie.

Simmering Ski Tour (2,096m)

823 M 823 M
medium medium
A relatively long tour uphill to the lush meadows of the Simmering summit and its wonderful views. Start is at the Grunberglift car park. The ascent follows the right-hand side of the old piste and, when necessary, the forest path, to Zwischensimmering. At the first bend, turn left into the Harnersteig. Before reaching the alpine hut (not managed), turn left again and cross the slopes to the summit.Tthe descent heads past the slopes towards Simmeringalm alpine hut and then mostly follows the toboggan run and piste back to the car park.

Stöttltörl ski tour (2,036 m)

921 M 921 M
medium medium
This ski tour is only suitable for experienced tourers. Prior knowledge and experience with deep snow and avalanche safety is required. The starting point is Arzkasten car park, where public parking is available. The tour covers a good 900 vertical metres on the way up to Stöttltörl.  The tour should only be done in safe conditions and must be started early because the steep faces of the Grünstein become increasingly prone to avalanches as temperatures rise throughout the day. When there's enough snow in the valley, it's possible to ride down from Stöttltörl via Stöttlreise to Obermieming.

Wankspitze Ski Tour (2,209m)

1100 M 1.100 M
hard hard
This ski tour is suitable for experienced tourers, and knowledge of deep snow and avalanches is obligatory. The ascent starts at the beginning of the toboggan run. Cross the stream and turn left. The route heads uphill by a clearing in the forest before rejoining the sledge run. Shortly before the Lehnberghaus alpine hut, a lane heads up to the Lacke, and a wonderful view of the Inn Valley. Head along the south-west face, first level, then steeply uphill. Head through the depression or alternatively continue left along the south-east face to the summit. The descent follows the same path. This is a very popular ski tour, especially in winter and even in the spring snow.
