From there you head east across two hills of mountain pines and a long ridge towards the summit. You carry on through the Rauhes Tal where you have to negotiate some climbing passages secured with cable (good head for heights essential). You then reach the solid summit structure and the summit cross on the western summit (2,662 m) from where you follow the marked trail heading east across stepped terrain into a depression. After a short climb there’s a flat plateau up to the eastern summit (2,592 m).
It’s then over the mountain’s steep eastern flank down to the Rauthhütte. The descent from the hut is via a rooted trail through the forest to the Buchner Höhe car park or on the forest trail to the Rauthhütte/Mundestadl car park.
Tips | Notes: summit tour, take plenty of fluids (no refill points), sure-footedness and a good head for heights essential. Mountain guide recommended!
Before starting the hike, a second car should be parked at the Buchner Höhe car park or Rauthhütte/Mundestadl car park so that you can drive back to the starting point at the Strassberghaus car park at the end of the tour.
