This hike starts from Hotel Bergland in Obsteig. Your first destination is Gasthaus Arzkasten, an alpine guesthouse and restaurant, which is located just a short way along a wide forest trail. From there, you continue towards the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. The route starts along a forest road but soon branches off to become a narrow path. The Sturlbach stream flows alongside the trail and you can enjoy the sound of the water and the fresh scent of the conifers while you walk. The trail gets slowly steeper and leads away from the bank of the stream. However, after a very steep section you'll soon be welcomed by the flag of the private Lehnberghaus mountain refuge. There you can relax on the lovely terrace and let your gaze wander over the mountains in the Mieming Range while replenishing your energy levels with one of the traditional Tyrolean dishes off the menu. If you want to continue on, you can take a root-laced path to the Lacke viewing platform, which offers views of the Mieming Plateau, the Inn Valley, the Wetterstein mountains, the Karwendel mountains and the Stubai and Ötz Valley Alps at their best. From Lacke, a very visible path continues up the mountain and the landscape gradually becomes alpine terrain. With a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of alpine fauna such as chamois, ibex or marmots. After a good 500 vertical metres, you reach the summit of Wankspitze, the "tame" outpost of the wild Mieming Range, and wonderful panoramic views spread out in front of you. To the north, you can see the rocky and rugged "Hölle" (hell) and to the south, the towering peaks of the Stubai and Ötztal Valley Alps.
The hike back follows the same, now familiar, trails to the Lehnberghaus and Gasthaus Arzkasten. The hike ends back at the starting point, Hotel Bergland in Obsteig.
