If you would rather start your hike from Stiglreith, you can follow a forest road up to Sulzstich, which is located at an altitude of 1,560 metres above sea level. The route passes a picturesque reservoir lake and the Jausenstation Sulzstich restaurant and continues until the last bend below the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. From there you can see the Krimpenbachalm mountain hut (not open to the public), the mighty Rosskogel mountain below and the Kögele to the left of it. Take the alpine path to the left of the forest road towards the Krimpenbachalm mountain hut and follow it to the hut (1,918 m), a beautiful setting with wonderful long views. From there, continue over alpine pastures following the signs to Kögele (2,195 m), where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, some of which reach altitudes of over 3,000 metres above sea level.
You can follow the same route back or take trail no. 11 along an alpine path towards Meils. This route is particularly beautiful when the alpine roses are in bloom in June and July. At this time, the path leads you through a sea of flowers before passing the small Krimpenbachsee lake and continuing on towards the Krimpenbachalm mountain hut. From there, follow the road towards the Krimpenbachsattel (1,899 m) and the rustic Rosskogelhütte mountain hut (1,777 m), which is known for its good food and wonderful sun terrace. You can then walk down the forest road or follow the lift track, past the reservoir lake and along the Ghost Trail to Stiglreith.
Stiglreith car park (fees apply).
The panoramic road to Stiglreith is closed to cars from 1 November until 31 March.
